Ski Guiding and Off Piste Courses

What draws people to Chamonix is the great variety of skiing. Chamonix does have nursery slopes and piste for intermediates, but there is also a even bigger area of off-piste and marked trails that are full of surprises. For skiers that are looking to get the best out of Chamonix and the off-piste areas.

  • Centre based Ski touring days
  • For those that want to try something new one day Ice-climbing lessons.
 
2 & 3 Day Off-piste Courses
Crevasse Rescue / Glacier
Spend 2 or 3 days skiing without lift queues and have the experience and local knowledge of a U.I.A.G.M. mountain guide.   The course will include avalanche awareness and the use of transceivers, Skiing on glacier and understanding crevasses danger with a lesson in crevasse rescue.

The guide will seek out the best snow and give you advice on technique of how to handle the terrain while analysing the slope for safety.   The Vallee Blanche can be included in this course.

You do not need to have skied a lot of off-piste to do these courses but you do need to be comfortable on a good black piste.

Centre based Ski Touring
Spend from one to three days skinning up to enjoy beautiful views away from the crowded pistes, then ski down in what can be untouched snow.

You can spend several days in the Chamonix area touring and coming back to the comfort of the chalet each night.

For those who have never tried touring before there will be tuition in the technique of skinning up and other equipment required.

For those that are not sure if touring is for them. Try one or 2 days without being committed to 6 days and sleeping in mountain huts.

Ice Climbing Course
Ice Climbing / Belay
 
Ideal for people that have never tried this sport before no experience is needed.   Spend 1 or 2 days learning climbing techniques using ice axes and crampons, use of ice screws. Rope skills, knots and abseiling.

These lessons usually take place on frozen waterfalls on the Argentiere glacier.
